Shawnee Mission School District Negotiated Agreement

The Board of Directors is committed to equal opportunities. The district and its collaborators may not unlawfully discriminate against a person on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, age, disability, national origin or any other category protected by law. The Shawnee Mission School District is an equal opportunity employer. Ahead of Thursday`s meeting, teachers rallied against the proposal, arguing that such a unilateral permit ignored union concerns outside of the borough`s offer of a 1 percent pay rise such as working conditions. The council stage comes after months of contract negotiations between the district and the union for which no agreement could be reached and after a factual report from the state that listened to the arguments of both parties. Teachers insisted on a 1.5 percent increase, as public schools in the Shawnee Mission will receive additional public funds. Employees who have opted for the unilateral agreement will receive retroactive compensation for the 1% salary increase, step-by-step movement and columns on their paycheck in March. Those who have chosen to stay in the 2018-2019 contract will receive a retroactive payment no later than the May 20 paycheck. This agreement is consistent with the Board`s previous plan, which provides for the same increase for classified employees and directors to offset the increased health insurance premiums that will come into effect on January 1, 2020. Here is the SM-NEA`s response to the district`s proposal. February 24M, 2020 District Statement on Ruling Today, the Kansas Department of Labor decided that years two and three of the three-year unilateral contract were a prohibited practice. Although the district does not agree with the decision, we remain committed to cooperating with NEA-SM to resolve the issue of future remuneration, benefits and working conditions.

That is why the district has approached KNEA to discuss the decision and will work to identify next steps. The borough continues to believe that it is essential to agree on a contract that is in the best interest of teachers and fiscally responsible. Click here to read the verdict.
